Sarah Montague Wins A 2022 DWAA Maxwell Award!
Congratulations are in order! Sarah Montague has been awarded a Maxwell Award in the 2022 Dog Writers Association of America Annual Writing Competition in Category 11 “Magazine Article – Art or Any Other Topic.” Her acclaimed article, “Southern Comfort – Remembering Sue Jeffries,” was published in the December 2021 issue of The Canine Chronicle.
Established in 1935, the DWAA is the most recognized professional writing association devoted to dogs. It is best known for its Annual Writing Competition. The contest often referred to as “The Olympics of the dog-writing world” encourages excellence in writing about dogs in all aspects of communication. 2022 marked its return after a two year hiatus. The competition is open to all writers, artists, photographers, editors and publishers whose work falls into a designated category. Over 100 professional writers and editors are recruited as judges; a panel of three judges score each entry. Each regular category winner receives the DWAA Maxwell Medallion, named in honor of the late Maxwell Riddle.
Below is an excerpt from the Maxwell Award winning article, “Southern Comfort – Remembering Sue Jeffries.” Congratulations on this incredible honor Sarah!
“I, too, was always struck by Jeffries intimate knowledge, not just of dogs but of handlers and their lives. If someone came into the ring at Westminster, she often knew the whole history of their careers, to whom they were married (or not married), and the trajectory of the particular dog.”
