Ghost of Fala the Scottish Terrier

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States, was also a devoted dog lover. His cherished pet, Fala, accompanied him on journeys, including secret trips on a hidden track beneath Grand Central Terminal. This track, known as Track 61, allowed FDR to avoid the public eye whenever he needed to, especially given his significant health issues that he wished to keep private.

Fala, a Scottish terrier, was a constant companion to Roosevelt and even traveled with him in the custom vehicle designed for underground transport. To this day, late-night employees at Grand Central Station claim to spot Fala waiting there, ever faithful to his owner.

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of Fala, you don’t need special access to Track 61. You can visit the FDR Memorial in Washington, DC, where a statue of Fala stands proudly beside his owner.
