The Royal Kennel Club has announced that Best in Show at Crufts 2028 will be judged by Espen Engh from Norway.
Well-known to the American dog show fancy, Espen Engh has judged more than a dozen US national or parent club specialties as well as numerous AKC Best In Shows including Santa Barbara, Del Valle, KC of Philadelphia, Trenton and during the AKC National Championship weekend. First approved by the Norwegian Kennel Club and the FCI in 1987, he was approved to judge all breeds in 2011. His first US appointment was the American Whippet Club Eastern Specialty in 1989. He has officiated in some 100 countries around the world, which to my knowledge, may be a record.
Espen’s first Crufts appointment was for Whippet bitches in 2002, and this will be his 14th time judging there. He judged the Hound group this year and will judge the Crufts Utility group in 2027. His husband, Åge Gjetnes, is going to judge the Hound Group at the show in 2028. The couple are amongst a group of very few judges in the world who have officiated at both Crufts and the Garden. Additionally, Espen has carried out countless appointments at FCI’s flagship shows such as the World, European and other section shows.
