Table Talk
Another Santa Barbara Kennel Club circuit is in the books and what lovely weather we had! The entry seemed similar to last year and the special events were enjoyed by all. Seeing the horse arena transformed into the Breeders Showcase venue continues to amaze me. The SBKC and Ryan’s Empire crew work their hind-ends off to ensure all runs smooth and the hard work pays off. This is truly a week of non-stop hard work for all of them; kudos to all for a job well done!
Meanwhile back in the Midwest the 5-day Owensboro cluster was held in their new venue, and I believe this was their first 5-day cluster. I hear the venue was great, but the question remains is 5 days too much??? Personally, I feel 5 days is a lot to ask of dogs and humans. Huge congrats go to Carol Harris and her handling team Justin and Cheslie Smithey for winning both Best in Show and Reserve Best in show the same day! Justin may want to re-think allowing his ever-so-capable spouse in the same BIS ring going forward. ?
Also in the Midwest… the Elgin Kennel Club cluster was held this past weekend. This year, they donated a vest to the Police K-9 team in the area. The Utah Beehive cluster also does this every year: What a great way for the fancy to give back to the community!
The fancy continues to warm my heart by helping a friend in need. When leaving the Olympic Cluster, Joe Berkau’s truck broke down and necessitated an extended stay for him in Washington. When Luke and Rowen Baggenstos heard of Joe’s plight, they did not hesitate to jump in and offer help, hospitality and support. Not only did they take Joe’s dogs to their kennel, they arranged for a mechanic to fix his truck, and put him up at their home until it was fixed. Bill and Taffe McFadden continued the show of hospitality and put him up at their home on his way from Washington to California. Friends showed the dogs that were at the Santa Barbara shows, and continued to check on Joe regularly to make sure he was okay. Pats on the back to Carrie Beaver, Connor McFadden and Olivia Hodgkinson for pitching in at the show, and to all of our close friends who kept tabs on Joe through his travels back home.
Best wishes to Cassie Clark, former assistant to Bruce and Tara Schultz, as she brings her catering business, The Cozy Kitchen, out to the hunting lodge owned by Jim & Janet Moses. Cassie is such a talented lady. We know she will do GREAT! Hurry back, Cassie: We miss you already!
Birthday wishes to Luke Seidlitz, Virginia Murray, Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine, Lisa Welch, Tanner Congleton, Eric Peterson, Kathy Harrington (great to see you in SB!), Eddie (spaghetti) Dziuk, Mareth Kipp, Steve Hayden, Bobby Fisher, Renee Popkey, Tim Terella, George Murray and Beep Lee.
Happy Anniversary to Amy and Andrew Green, Jimmy and Wanda White, and Jane and Greg Myers.
