Colorful Canine Characters Help Nonprofits Raise Funds
Kids and dogs have long gone hand-in-hand. Youngsters beg parents for puppies, cuddle stuffed pooches till they’re ragged, and scour books full of canine capers. Now non-profit organizations can use this child-focused fascination with dogs of all breeds to help raise funds with the children’s books in the Super Bouv Series. Just think about it…what better way to raise funds for a canine-benefiting nonprofit than with children’s books full of colorful, canine characters?
The three storybooks in the Super Bouv Series were published December, 2013 by Partners Publishing LLC when the company launched its Books That GiveTM program to assist non-profit organizations raise funds. Here’s how the program works: Each time a book is purchased with a coupon code from a partner organization at www.BooksThatGive.com, 100% of the author’s proceeds, plus a portion of the publisher’s proceeds, goes to support that particular non-profit group. Charitable organizations that participate in the Books That GiveTM program are each assigned a unique code which is then used to track the amount of funds generated through book purchases placed by supporters. The American Bouvier Rescue League (ABRL) is just one of the charities that is already raising funds for their work through the Books That GiveTM program.
The titles of the three books in the series are as follows: Ruby and Her New Family, Ruby and Her New Home, and Ruby and Her New Job. As the series unfolds, Ruby, the main character, grows from a puppy and eventually ventures forth into the world to bravely find a new family, a new home, and a then finally new job—but not without some mishaps!
The series was created by Lee Ann Billings, who has a BA in Journalism. She based Ruby off of her own Bouvier. After years of observing the antics and talents of her real-life Ruby, she had no shortage of tales to tell in the books.
The stories are brought to life by artist Maegan Penley, who has a BFA in Illustration. She used both watercolor and acrylic paints in each scene to create bright and lively artwork. Penley describes herself as a serious dog-lover. She owns both a boxer and a bulldoxer, who Ruby gets to “meet” when they make a brief cameo in the first book in the series.
Dog lovers of all ages will love Ruby. After receiving the books in the Super Bouv Series, Robin Visceglia shares, “I thought they were adorable. So much so that instead of sending my first set to my grandchildren, I ordered another set for them and kept mine! The characters are great and Ruby is a star. The kids loved them and practically have them memorized now!”
Richard Adams, a Bouvier owner himself, feels that Billings and Penley have made a great team. He shares, “Our five-year-old granddaughter loves the books—especially the illustrations—and the storyline is a great lesson for kids to learn.” Adams adds, “Kids need to read books and this series will capture their attention!”
As word of the Super Bouv Series has spread, dog lovers from many parts of the world—the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom—have enjoyed these delightful books. Come visit www.BooksThatGive.com and check them out yourself!
