The Salt City Cluster
Back again in the familiar fairgrounds building on the site of the New York State Fair, the four clubs which comprise the cluster held their 2023 shows. Better lighting brightened up the building, but some rings still had areas which were darker. The rings were full of exhibitors from the United States and our neighbors to the north, Canada. The quality from both countries was noticeable. The panel of judges reflected both countries, too. More and more we are seeing vendors return to the show scene. They were busy with shoppers every day.
Watching the groups each day evidenced the variety of opinions from the day’s judging. As a consequence, results were different day by day. The Affenpinscher National had a definite affect on the Toy Group. Two different dogs and a bitch won the breed each of the four days and the toy group, too. One dog won the breed twice, the other once, and the bitch won on the day of the National. The entry at the National was not large, but there was quality throughout. A highlight of the show was the appearance of Affenpinscher legend Jerry Cushman who judged the sweepstakes. Congratulations to Sandra Lex, show chair, and the members of the club for a successful national.
Each of the clubs put their stamp on their day’s show. The show tables were decorated with different themes. It was nice to see all the spring-themed table decor, especially with the weather being cold and rainy. On the 100th Anniversay of the Onondaga Kennel Association, everyone was treated to a delicious piece of cake. Some clubs offered coffee in the morning. The days flew by in a building in which everyone felt familiar and happy to be there.
