It’s no secret that AKC has been sliding down a slippery slope the last couple decades. Ignoring vitriolic AR rhetoric hasn’t proven to be the best strategy, but it is what it is. Right now, the main goal is reviving its formerly glorious standing in the dog world. And like many things, it’s just a matter of seeing the obvious solution rather than wandering through the weeds.

Specifically, I’m talking about the avalanche of valuable programs that AKC has devised, launched and sponsored for decades. For example, canine health is a gigantic plank of AR hatemongering. Well….we can thank AKC for promoting the entire concept of responsible dog care in addition to funding myriad breakthroughs in veterinary medicine that actually turned that laudable idea into hardline reality. And they have continued building on that success in ways that the general dog loving (AKC hating) public seldom comprehends.

AKC ReuniteTM funds a diverse array of community outreach programs to promote the ongoing vital role of purebred dogs. Its matching grant, Adopt a K9 Cop program may be the sterling example. Recently, I spoke to Tom Sharp, CEO of AKC ReuniteTM. Like everything else, this program began as a relatively modest effort.
