AKC Reunite: Helping Pets Impacted by Hurricane Ian

Our thoughts are with the people and pets affected by and in the forecast path of Hurricane Ian. The hurricane has devastated Florida and over two million Florida residents are without power. This deadly storm is now impacting South Carolina and North Carolina.

Especially during these uncertain times:
1. Make sure your pet’s microchipping records are up-to-date.
2. Add an out-of-state Alternate Contact to your pet’s record in the event you and your pet are displaced from one another and you cannot be reached because phone lines are down or jammed.
3. Follow all local Emergency Management directives.
4. Refer to the AKC Reunite Pet Emergency Planning Guide with more helpful guidance on how to keep your pet safe.

AKC Reunite is the nation’s largest non-profit pet microchip and recovery service that has given back over $11 million to support working K-9s and pet disaster relief efforts. We have been recognized with the 2022 Platinum Seal of Transparency by Candid. Today we donated $22,500 to the following animal welfare organizations helping pets displaced by the storm:

Gulf Coast Humane Society in Ft. Meyers, FL ($5,000)
Orange County Animal Shelter in Orlando, FL ($5,000)
Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, FL ($5,000)
SPCA Florida/Florida State Animal Response Coalition Lakeland, FL ($5,000)
Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee, FL ($2,500)
