Remembering Wayne Boyd
It is with sorrow and fond memories that we report the passing of Wayne Boyd. Wayne was a highly respected handler and breeder who was best-known for the outstanding Great Pyrenees bred under the Rivergroves prefix with his wife, Jean. Wayne and Jean’s breeding program spanned over four decades and included numerous #1 Great Pyrenees, National Specialty winners, and Best In Show winners. Their dogs made history with the most famous being Ch. Rivergroves Run For The Roses who Wayne and Jean piloted to 48 Best in Shows. He was also the only Great Pyrenees to win the Quaker Oats award.
Many will remember the famous Bullmastiff, Ch. Bandog’s Crawdaddy Gumbo aka “Waldo” that Wayne handled from 1984-1987. Waldo was the top-winning Bullmastiff in breed history with 37 All Breed Best In Shows. He was the #1 Working Dog and #2 All Breeds in 1985.
Wayne will always be remembered for his deep knowledge of dogs and his dedication to the sport. He was a tough competitor and a true friend to those who knew him and the sport of purebred dog.
The Canine Chronicle extends sincere condolences to his family, friends and the dog show community following his passing. He will be missed.
