Remembering Mary Jo Loye – Josandre’ Papillons and Phalenes
by Cheslie Pickett
We are saddened to report the passing of Mary Jo Loye of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Mary Jo bred Papillons and Phalenes under the Josandre’ prefix since purchasing her first papillon in 1966.
Mary Jo dedicated her life to the Papillon breed. She bred, owned or handled seven different Papillons to Best in Show awards in the United States and Canada. She also handled three different Papillons to Best of Breed at the Papillon Club of America National Specialty. In addition to Papillons, Mary Jo had a special interest in Phalenes. She co-owned the first Phalene to be awarded an All Breed Best in Show in the United States and the first Phalene to be awarded Best of Breed at the Papillon Club of America National Specialty.
She volunteered for the Papillon Club of America, serving on the board and various committees. Most recently, she was the club historian. Mary Jo was a mentor to countless Papillon fanciers and Junior Showmanship participants. Josandre’ Papillons can be found in the pedigrees of many of today’s top Papillons.
Mary Jo’s passion and excitement for her next hopeful, next litter, or next show was infectious. She was a pillar in the breed and she will be so very missed.
