Official American Kennel Club Statement on Ukraine Crisis

The American Kennel Club formally and strongly condemns the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. We are devastated at the ongoing horrors, and our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people. Please know that we stand with you in solidarity against this horrific invasion.

This crisis has deeply affected the Ukrainian dog community, with many in harm’s way fleeing in fear for their lives with their pets in tow, taking care not to leave their animals behind regardless of the sheltering situation. The sacred human/canine bond remains strong amid relentless fear, uncertainty, and the violation of human rights.

The AKC has reached out to the Ukrainian Kennel Union to assist dogs and their owners and stands ready to assist other organizations directly connected to assisting dog breeders, exhibitors and owners affected by this crisis.

Signed,

Dr. Thomas M. Davies, Chairman
Dominic P. Carota, Vice Chairman
Dennis B. Sprung, President and CEO
