Baton Rouge Flooding Affects Our Dog Show Friends

The flooding of Baton Rouge and the surrounding area has made headlines across the country for the past several days; people have died, others are injured and thousands are homeless while losing all of their personal possessions to the rising floodwaters.

The flooding has hit many of the dog fanciers we know and see around the rings each weekend. According to Daryl Martin, longtime breeder and exhibitor Shannon Moberly lost her home, car, motorhome and personal belongings. Luckily, she was able to save herself and her dogs along with her late husband’s ashes, but the rest of her possessions are gone.

This photo shows the devastation she has endured.

We were told AKC judge Gloria Geringer’s home is flooded, too. Angie Stanberry told Daryl Martin that she went to check on the safety of her son and the roads were closed behind her and she was unable to get to her home. Fortunately, her husband was home and he told her they were high and dry and all is well. I am sure there are many other similar stories about our dog friends that have been impacted by the flood.

Some reports claim that the flooding is worse than that of Hurricane Katrina due to the size of the area affected.

Please check online to find ways to help our doggie friends in their time of need.

If you know of other stories about those in need in Baton Rouge or ways people can help, please email us at info@caninechronicle.com

Our thanks to Daryl Martin for bringing this story to our attention.
