At its October meeting, the AKC board approved the procedures to be used for registering the Dalmatians. The written procedure is over 500 words long and complex, laid out in ten points. These dogs will come in under Open Registration, designated as descendants of the “Stocklore Stipples,” the same dogs that have been called the LUA Dalmatians.

I have been a breeder of purebred dogs for longer than many of you have been alive. I am not alone for, in fact, many share incredible longevity within the fancy. I lay claim to forty-two years and there are others who have been at the game even longer. It is to those of us old-timers that the paucity of quality in many Bred By Exhibitor classes looms as an often shocking state of affairs.

The dogs tried their best, and while their handlers spoke many different languages, the dogs spoke one international language: WOOF. The majority of the winning dogs were Border Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs. There was a great variety of dogs each displaying their breed characteristics. Some of the dogs were new to me and I couldn’t pronounce or spell their names, but they were beautiful and talented performers.
