Hurricane Harvey has left so many in our dog world with such great loss, the type of loss many of us have never and will never experience. Our dog show family once again has stepped up and is providing needed support to those in need. I realize I am not aware of everyone that has stepped up to the plate, but please allow me to publicly thank those that I know have provided much needed support:

If you know of anyone who needs a temporary kennel facility due to this disaster, Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine has generously offered her empty kennel and kennel apartment to anyone who may need it on a temporary basis. It comes complete with living quarters above it. If you can get to Ann Arbor, Michigan, you’ll have temporary shelter. Kudos to you, Peggy, for your generosity! Again social media is playing a huge part in helping those who need urgent assistance by putting those offering a helping hand together with those who are in dire need.

Faith Ott, owner of the Spanish Water Dog “Jango” that is shown by Nina Fetter, is off to Budapest and Slovakia. She will be bringing back two Spanish Water Dog puppies. It sounds like a fabulous trip with the added excitement of bringing back two new puppies.

Anyone that has had the pleasure of sampling Cassie’s wonderful catering talents knows what a special treat it is for the diners. Probiotics and Your Dogs – Part 2

Digestive-System

One of the important functions of “good” bacteria is protection against gastrointestinal disease. The symbiotic bacteria of the GI tract use mechanisms of competitive exclusion by not allowing the bad bacteria to take up residence. They produce metabolites to bind toxins or directly kill pathogens, immobilizing them from causing disease.

Just this week Jackie Johnson was in a car accident on her way to the Muncie, Indiana Iced Tea Cluster. Holley Eldred posted a plea for help on Facebook and in a matter of a few short minutes Ryan Wolfe was on his way to the rescue! Anyone that knows Ryan knows that he will never hesitate to pitch in and help a fellow fancier in need and, once again, Ryan to the Rescue! Hats off to Ryan for always being there when the need presents itself.

Not all disinfectants are created equal. Remember, product labels list the microscopic organisms (bacteria, viruses, and fungi) that can be killed by each disinfectant.

I was saddened to read the Eugene (Oregon) Kennel Club will be folding due to lack of working members. This is becoming an increasing issue with kennel clubs across the nation. If you are not already involved with an all-breed club, please find one in your area and join! This is a critical part of our sport. Without working members, clubs cannot put on dog shows……everyone should consider giving up one or two show weekends a year to help clubs put on their shows.

There have been so many tragic accidents as a result of the heat again this year. I am astounded to find the number of people that lack proper temperature detection devices in their vehicles. So, I thought it might help to give you a list of products that many exhibitors are using. The MarCell Cellular Temperature Monitoring System utilizes cellular frequency to transmit changes in temperature. This unit can be purchased through the website at www.sensoredlife.com. Last I checked the unit itself was $229 and the monthly monitoring cost was about $8.50. There are many similar units out there these days at varied price points. There is also a less expensive unit that costs around $80 that can be purchased at www.lumastrobe.com. This unit is normally used for refrigeration monitoring, but would be a great backup to one of the other temperature alert systems. These purchases can save the lives of your dogs. They cost less than a weekend’s worth of entries. No one attending shows in the summer heat should be without one!
