SOMERSET, NJ – The curtain rises on one of the dog show world’s most carefully guarded secrets: Morris & Essex Kennel Club President Wayne Ferguson, due to overwhelming requests, has decided to release the judge’s list months earlier than in past years.

“We are releasing the names in October because, for the first time in Morris & Essex Kennel Club history, we have over 100 breeds holding specialties and supported entries and want to reward their enthusiasm with the early announcement of the judge’s lists,” Mr. Ferguson announced today.

Renowned judge Jane Forsyth will award Best in Show honors at the 2015 show, on Thursday, October 1, on the grounds of Colonial Park, in Franklin Township, NJ. The next Morris & Essex Kennel Club show features a total of 80 AKC judges. Group judges are as follows:

Sporting Group: Karen Wilson

Hound Group: Patricia Trotter

Working Group: Klaus Anselm

Terrier Group: Desmond Murphy

Toy Group: Peter Green

Non-Sporting: Johnny Shoemaker

Herding Group: Dorothy Collier

Miscellaneous Breeds & Group: Randy Garren

The Morris & Essex Dog Show was one of the most illustrious showcases for purebred dogs in the United States founded by Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge and held on her estate’s polo fields in Madison, NJ from 1927 to 1957.

In the year 2000, the Morris & Essex Kennel Club was revived by Wayne Ferguson, founder of Cherrybrook Pet Products and well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist of animal causes, along with a small group of fanciers, in an effort to capture the “glory and grandeur” of the historically significant Morris & Essex show with a grand dog show to be held every five years. In its first year, the show was held on Mrs. Dodge’s estate in Madison, NJ and in its 1937 heyday, more than 50,000 dog-loving spectators descended upon the tiny NJ borough while 4,104 dogs were shown.

On October 1, 2015, the large tents, in fact, ¼ of a mile of tenting with club banners waving, 30 rings, elaborate silver trophy tent display, fine art show of canine paintings, and an air of elegance, nostalgia, hospitality and tradition – including exhibitors and spectators dressed in vintage garb and hats reminiscent of the 1920s-1950s – will reign once again in Colonial Park recalling “The Exhibitors Show” that Mrs. Dodge provided to the fancy for nearly 30 years. And, it’s hoped that well over 4,000 dogs will once again compete for the coveted Morris & Essex Kennel Club Best in Show title.
