The long-awaited Westminster Kennel Club invite list has been posted! You can find the list on the infodog.com website, and the Westminster Kennel Club website. As mentioned by Westminster Kennel Club President Don Sturz in our recent Table Talk Live Segment, do not wait to enter until you receive your hardcopy invitation. Entries are open, so get those entries in now! We look forward to seeing everyone back in New York City in February. Good luck to all those entering who did not receive invites–I hope the random selection is good to you!
This past week the Great Dane Club of America held their National Specialty at the Kalahari Resort located at Wisconsin Dells. This was the first time that the resort allowed dogs at the hotel. Volunteers and exhibitors say they were very happy with the facility. Clubs looking for a good Midwest location for their National Specialty may want to look into this place. The Great Dane folks know how to put on a National, and I believe this is Jason Hoke’s last year as National Specialty Chair. Great work, Jason! I’m sure you will be missed as Show Chair but have no doubt that you will shower your predecessor with great wisdom.
A few weeks back I talked about the Doberman Pinscher Handler who was recorded (twice) using what appeared to be excessive force with her exhibit. I promised at the time that I would keep everyone informed about how the case progresses. The November AKC Gazette has been emailed, including the November Secretary’s pages. The Handler in question has been suspended by the AKC Event Committee. It should be noted that this determination may still be appealed and could be reversed. Upon expiration of the appeal process, an appropriate notice describing the status of the individual’s suspension, if any, will appear in the Secretary’s pages. I will continue to monitor the situation and keep everyone posted.
AKC Judge James Deppen has been suspended for life and a $10,000 fine was imposed for Judicial or Administrative determination of inappropriate treatment. His suspension is effective June 11, 2024. This was Mr. Deppen’s second offense of inappropriate treatment of dogs.
As part of AKC’s commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for all, the AKC Board of Directors adopted a policy requiring all premium lists and judging programs to include contact information for the Darkness to Light Abuse hotline. The information is to be listed in the general information area of all premium lists and judging programs.
Many of you are aware of the wonderful African Safaris that Kim and Angela Booth have enjoyed along with several fanciers who have been fortunate enough to join them on these wonderful journeys. Well, my friends, when not standing behind the camera taking wonderful win shots of your dogs, Kim and Angela are embarking on another journey: Booth Adventure Travel! I have to say if I was going on an African adventure, I would not want anyone other than Kim and Angela to help me! Congrats to Kim and Angela for taking your passion to the next level!
Comforting thoughts to Kate Berry as she copes with a medical emergency concerning her mom. Kate had to leave the dog show early to go home. In the blink of an eye fanciers assisted Kate with her dogs, etc. as she packed up to leave quickly. She expressed her gratitude to everyone, including her clients, for their understanding and help. Hang in there, Kate! We are all here for you.
Happy Anniversary to Dylan Kipp Keith and Chris Keith. It is hard to believe you guys have been married for seven years already! Newlyweds Brianne Major-Weber and Jesse Weber are celebrating their first anniversary. Best wishes for many more, happy healthy years of wedded bliss to both couples.
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include: Peter Green, Hal Biermann, David Williams, Dasha Mlinarich, Ernesto Lara, Jim Noe, Candice Duclos, Ernie Conti, Christian Manelopoulos, and Linda Hurlebaus. Make this next trip around the sun an epic one!!
Here’s a good thought that’s applicable to dog enthusiasts: Dumping money into your hobby is investing in your passion. Your passion is tied to your purpose. Never let anyone undermine your hobbies!
Be safe out there, my friends! I look forward to seeing everyone in Orlando. Until next time…
