Around here, the Edison shows have come to symbolize the kickoff of that non-stop show calendar that doesn’t ease up until winter. At least for local exhibitors it represents our first big opportunity to rack up points. Bronx and New Brunswick understand that, which has directed the ongoing structure of this weekend from the start.

First priority, pack in as many point show events as possible. Exhibitors can plan to arrive and move in for a comfortable four-day experience. That goal has evolved into a combination of Group shows, Specialty shows and supported entries in combination with three All Breed events. That paid off in some sizeable entries for clubs that are willing to do the extra work. Although Bronx and New Brunswick take care of a big piece of the cost and logistics, it still requires a notable time, work and money commitment to run a specialty.

Lourdes Fernandez can say with some authority that clubs began working on 2025 well before the 2024 shows had closed shop. “Clubs have to apply to AKC and get approval before anything moves forward. It’s a complicated coordination of fundraising, paperwork and creative show planning.”
