Wayne Cavanaugh’s article, Onion and Opinions (pg. 56) is a must-read for anyone involved in the sport of purebred dogs who has opined about a judge’s placements while standing outside the ring. So, this article is for you because I am certain everyone has critiqued a judge’s choices at one time or another.

Wayne’s article addresses the sub-group who choose to criticize judges via social media rather than in person at the show. He writes this line while referring to this year’s Wesminster judging, “While a superb panel of best in show and group judges were sorting and awarding the best of the best this year, the pundits were busy erupting into keyboard karate…”

I’ll be the first to admit that I have bitched about a judge’s placements many times. I did it when I was a handler, I have done it as an owner, and I have written about poor judging as a magazine publisher.

I must say I have never commented about judging on social media because I avoid these platforms. It’s not a place where I want to spend my free time.
