Greyhound from Germany wins place in Crufts Best in Show Final
Aya, a Greyhound from Germany, has won the Hound Group title at Crufts 2022 (Friday 11 March), qualifying her for a place in the Best in Show final on Sunday.
Aya (Ch Ina’s Fashion Desirable), aged four, will return to the Resorts World Arena at the NEC in Birmingham for a place in the final at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, with her owner Ina Koulermou.
People across the world will be watching to see which dog is crowned Best in Show on Sunday as the final is shown live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube channel.
Over 16,000 dogs are competing over the four days of the show for one of just seven places in the Crufts final and a chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.
Proud owner Ina, who is originally from Cyprus but now lives in Germany, said: “What just happened! I’m always very proud of Aya, but I didn’t have any expectations for today. This has been our dream, I live in Germany but we travel to Crufts every year and enjoy coming and meeting people. But I didn’t know this would happen today!
“Aya is extraordinary. She’s very sensitive and very attached to me, she’s my best friend. She enjoys showing as much as I do, we are perfect together. We’re so excited for Sunday!”
Vanessa McAlpine, Crufts Show Manager, said: “We are so pleased to see Aya and Ina winning the Hound Group today. The pair should certainly be very proud of their achievement in reaching the prestigious Best in Show final after their hard work.
“Crufts recognises the special and unique bond between dogs and their owners and celebrates healthy, happy dogs and the bond between Aya and Ina was clear to see, and Aya was comfortable and confident in the show ring.
“The Best in Show final is looking very exciting and we want to wish them both the very best of luck in the ring on Sunday. I’m sure that all of Germany will be tuning in to Channel 4 to cheer them on!”
