I hope that by the time you read this, things will be slowly getting back to normal for all of you. These past few months have been very strange and unsettling for millions of us all around the world.
Due to the threat of COVID-19, it’s sometimes felt like a giant finger pushing down from the heavens and pressing pause on man’s frenetic activities on earth.
For a while, here in the UK, down on the palm-fringed south coast of Devon, we seemed somewhat shielded from the very worst of it all. We watched and shook our heads in disbelief at the awful scenes unfolding elsewhere in Europe but the threat of COVID still seemed so very far off.
Sure, we had our fair share of loons, those stripping supermarket shelves bare and hoarding hand sanitizer and toilet rolls but, in general, life carried on pretty much as normal.
Even Crufts went ahead as planned and the doom-mongers’ predictions that this event, “would change our way of life forever,’ seemed to be very well off the mark.
And then, slowly, numbers of people needing medical attention and hospitalization began to rise and things suddenly got a whole lot more serious when our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced something that had previously been quite unthinkable – a lockdown…a nationwide house arrest.
We were limited to one exercise period per day – which is not much fun when there are three adults and four dogs in a two bedroomed bungalow with a sixty-foot garden!
But many had it far worse than us, of course; at least we were fortunate to have some outdoor space. Many dog owners in London, for example, have much smaller gardens and sometimes simply just a balcony.
