Table Talk
Another Labor Day Holiday weekend is in the books and, sadly, another summer is coming to an end. The five-day cluster in Lexington Kentucky was once again very successful and well-received by exhibitors. Remember, just a couple years ago there was great skepticism about moving this show inside to the lovely arena that was built for the World Equestrian Games a few years back. Each year the show has gotten better. The biggest complaint I hear is the two-level rings for breed judging with many stairs to negotiate if one does not want to wait for the elevator. Think of it as your daily cardio!
National Specialty season is upon us and I’d love to hear about special events at your National Specialties to give others good ideas for theirs.
Kudos to Nancy Liebes and her co-breeders, Val McNelis and Audrey White, for hitting the road to pick up a dog of their breeding after the owner unexpectedly passed away. The dog has already been placed in a loving forever home. Disaster averted, thank goodness! Nina Fetter and team “Bhetty Boop” are off to Greece to enjoy some fun in the sun. I am green with envy but wish the girls a fun, safe, rest-ful trip.
I was thrilled to hear that Take The Lead has expanded its charitable contributions to support fanciers who have been affected by natural disasters such as the recent Louisiana floods.
Our thoughts are with all of our dog family that continues to deal with losses as a result of the recent storms in Louisiana and we are thinking about our east coast friends as they batten down the hatches to deal with the remnants of Hurricane Hermine.
The dog world was saddened by the news that Joe Tacker passed away on August 27, 2016. Joe was a fixture at dog shows for nearly 60 years as a judge becoming one of AKC’s few all-rounders. He judged less over the past several years, but he could still be found in the ring several times per year. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Joe found a career as a commercial airline pilot. We will all miss his friendly smile and kind demeanor at our shows.
Birthday wishes to Bonny Datema, Kim Calvacca, Lisa Thomas and Lorraine Rainwater. Birthday wishes also extended to Vicki Seiler’s daughter, Courtney Fillinger, who is celebrating her 29th birthday: It is hard to believe that Vicki has a 29-year-old daugther!!!! Time sure does fly!
Enjoy the end of your summer all, and be sure to let me know what’s up!
Be safe out there…
Until next time….
