At a large cluster, it seemed that poor sportsmanship was rampant in many rings. One judge apparently felt the need to congratulate those on their wins as well as thank exhibitors of their sportsmanship when appropriate. That wasn’t received well by those who did not get thanked.

Well the AKC Grand Championship program is more or less off the ground and running but not before some rather astonishing things have been said about it on those notorious Lists in cyberspace and all sorts of arbitrary confusion has been publicly generated by the asking of singularly stupid questions and from lack of intelligence.

s it possible that it’s been a full year? It’s Westminster 2010, when dog fanciers set aside their workaday lives to gather in New York City and indulge their passion. Yes, the Olympics are underway in Vancouver, the Daytona 500 is happening in Florida (with a lot less snow), and behind the New York Public Library it’s Fashion Week in Bryant Park. But around Madison Square Garden, dogs are the focus.

Some years ago I served on a committee working to update our constitution and by-laws. The committee chair was a successful trial attorney who I simultaneously loved, respected and found tiresomely verbose. It was one of those jobs one worries will never end…especially bothersome considering the inordinate amount of time being devoted to it. But I walked away grateful for a single great line. “This club,” our chairman tersely remarked, “eats its own.” I have recently come to know exactly what he meant.

They are Mr. F. J. Bob Bartos, Jr. (BB) with the Scottie dog, Ch. Bardene Bingo in 1967, Mr. Richard Chashoudian (RC) with the Lakeland dog, Ch. Jo Ni’s Red Baron of Crofton in 1976, and Mr. Gabriel Rangel (GR) with the Scottie female, Ch. Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot in 2010.
