Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is tomorrow! It seems like we were in Palm Springs just a few weeks ago. I hope everyone spends the holiday the way they want to spend it! It’s difficult to make our “non-dog” friends understand our crazy way of life. They don’t comprehend the fact that if there is a dog show around a holiday, most of us will be traveling to the show, grooming dogs for the show, or showing!
Thanksgiving Day also brings the tradition of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, followed by the televised version of the National Dog Show which was taped at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s Saturday show. While the National Dog Show has a much more abbreviated format than the other two televised shows–the AKC National Championship, which airs in January, and Westminster Kennel Club, which airs live in February–the National Dog Show is still a great opportunity to reach the public as illustrated by the ratings for this show.
Given the abbreviated nature of Thursday’s dog show broadcast of the National Dog Show, if you are watching it with your family and friends, you can tell them if the dog they want to see is not televised, they can go to the streaming version of the show and see all of the dogs! Make it fun for the family and remind everyone we have two more great opportunities to see dog shows on TV in January and February. They show all of the dogs and give a better “picture” of what a dog show really is like!
The entries have closed for the three lead-up shows to the 25th AKC National Championship, and once again those entries do not disappoint. Thursday’s entry is 4,324, Wednesday’s entry is 4,672 and Thursday’s entry is 4,914! We then move into the AKC National Championship shows which run Friday-Sunday. All efforts are being made to avoid conflicts in scheduling on Friday, and the NOHS Finals have been scheduled on the day opposite the breed judging on the weekend. Hopefully, this will minimize conflicts and confusion about schedules!
Here are a couple of things to remember when you arrive in Orlando: Please be courteous when using the bathing facilities. Bathe one dog, and let the next person bathe theirs. Please do not bring multiple dogs to the tub and bathe them all at once. It is not fair to your fellow exhibitors! Perhaps you can have someone else from your team wait in line with the next dog.
Please be kind to the men in orange. They are doing their best to keep everyone and everything organized, and it is not an easy task. Our Site Control friends are working long hours with minimal sleep, and they do their very best to accommodate everyone while making sure things run smoothly. They deserve kindness (and even a cup of coffee once in a while!)
Please not that no one will be allowed in the building prior to 10 AM on Monday. So, make your plans accordingly! Rigs will not be permitted to stage on any active roadway. If you try to stage on an active roadway, you will be asked to move!
I am looking forward to another epic Table Talk Live broadcast throughout the week in Orlando. Many in the sport want to hear your thoughts! Please stop by the Chronicle booth with your canine friend and tell us what’s on your mind! If we think it’s worthwhile, you might find yourself on Canine Chronicle TV. We would love to share your special wins, and we always like to feature those who are attending for the first time.
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include Tami Luddeke, Holly Leftwich, Tricia Stanczyk, Jennifer Costantinidis, Curtiss Smith, Bonnie Wagaman, Matt Hoagland, Colton O’Shea, Jamie Souza Bartlett, Desi Murphy, Lexi Rogers-Munson, Diane Ehricht, and Caleb Dean Tolley. Celebrate in style, my friends–and may you have a GREAT day!
Here’s my thought for the day: Be part of the solution, not the problem!
Be safe in your travels, and if you see a newcomer with that ‘deer in the headlights’ look, please stop and ask them if they need help.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon! Until next time…
