Table Talk · July 29, 2020

“I can’t stop scrolling!”  I saw this comment so many times this past weekend as I perused social media!  Why?  Fanciers at home had dog show results to check for the first time in a month!  This pandemic has really been an eye opener for me.  I continue to learn things that I have always taken for granted.  Simple things like hopping on the Canine Chronicle website or Facebook page to find out what’s happening at dog shows around the country.  This past weekend was the first time since March where there were TWO 4-day clusters the same weekend, and even though I was not there in person it made things feel closer to normal than they have in some time!

Congratulations to all of those involved in making the Mountain Laurel Cluster in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and the Carolina Foothills Cluster in Greenville, South Carolina happen!!!!  Your hard work and dedication is key to getting our sport up and running again! Both Phil Boyce and Kris Harner have shared a wealth of information on social media about procedures, how they were implemented, what worked, and what could be tweaked to improve.  They have also generously offered to serve as a resource for other show giving clubs.  Both can be reached via Facebook.

Congratulations to the fancy as a whole for showing that we, as a community, can do what it takes to carry on and have dog shows safely. If we remain diligent in our adherence to social distancing, face masks, etc., we will continue the momentum needed to bring our sport back!  It is truly heart-warming to see how happy everyone is to be doing what they love, and to see that everyone is willing to do what is needed to keep our shows going!

We should all remember to make sure that we check with show or cluster chairs about information pertaining to a show being cancelled, etc.  I’m sure that all show-giving clubs would appreciate it if people did not post information pertaining to their shows without checking with them first.  Those who are trying to keep their shows alive have a huge job ahead of them.  Reach out and ask how you can help!

I am excited to be heading to Canfield this week to bring you Table Talk Live coverage of the shows there.  I have a couple of special guests that will be joining me to make our coverage fun!  Please give me a shout if you are going to be at the shows. I can be reached at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Barb Beissel who had a tragic RV fire on her way to the Greenville shows this past weekend.  Barb and Sharla were able to save 8 dogs, but sadly 4 perished in the fire.

Healing thoughts to David Johnson, Cluster Chair for the Kentuckiana Cluster in Louisville, as he recovers from spinal surgery.

Happy 32nd Anniversary to Red and Denise Tatro!  Denise had to wish her hubby happy anniversary remotely as he was on the road judging.

Celebrating birthdays this week are:  Vicki Holloway, Kyle Robinson, Jenny Listug, Terri Giannetti, Stuart McGraw, Shaun Garrity, Rachel Kulp, Wayne Cavanaugh, Michelle Starry, Lisa Bettis, Glen Lajeski and Roz Kramer.  May you all have a safe, happy, healthy year ahead!

My thought for the week is this:  A positive attitude may not solve all of your problems, but it will likely annoy enough people to make it worth the effort!

Be safe out there, wear your masks, wash your hands, and be kind to your fellow fanciers. I’ll see you in Canfield!  Until next time…
