Westminster announced that not only will the 146th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show return to New York City in 2022, but the group judging will return to Madison Square Garden! There are plenty of details to be ironed out in the coming months, including where breed judging, obedience, and agility will be held. What we DO know is that the show will be held Monday, January 24-Wednesday, January 26, 2022. The obedience trial will be held on Monday, followed by breed judging on Tuesday January 25th and Wednesday January 26th. The Masters Agility Championship will be held on January 22nd. The qualifying period to be eligible to enter the Champions-only conformation competition is October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021. Entries will open October 25, 2021 and will close November 19, 2021. The entry limit will be 2,500, as usual.
Entries opened for the 145th Westminster Kennel Club dog show on March 11, 2021 and will close on April 9th, or when the 2,500-dog limit is reached. Those dogs who were not in the top 5 of their breed during the qualifying period for the 2021 show are waiting to hear if their entry has been accepted. Good luck to all!! Due to state and local government COVID-19 guidelines, there will be no vendors or spectators allowed at this year’s show. The show will be held outdoors, and there is no benching. Stay tuned for more information. Our friends at Westminster have promised to chat with Table Talk Live! When they have their ducks in a row.
April 1st was no April Fool’s joke for the Kipp sisters as they both went Best In Show at different shows across the country. I’m not sure if this has ever happened before, but it is certainly a significant family accomplishment! Congratulations to Devon Kipp and Dylan Kipp Keith and all involved!
I would like to extend healing thoughts to Arley Hussin who had to cancel judging assignments due to illness. We hope you feel better soon, my friend.
It is with a heavy heart that I pass on the sad news of Harriet Prager’s passing at the age of 94. Harriet, the wife of the late Charlie Prager, was a long-time member of the International Kennel Club of Chicago and the founding member of Pasco Florida Kennel Club. Our thoughts are with her daughter, Renee Popkey, and the rest of the family at this most difficult time.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of AKC judge Fred Ferris. Fred brought a smile to all that had the pleasure of knowing him. We wish to express our condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed by all.
Michael Brantley had his first knee surgery this week. He is one step closer to getting back to it! Get well quickly, Mike!
Terri Erickson is healing from a planned surgical procedure performed this past week. This procedure should help keep Terri safe from another stroke. Get well soon, my friend.
Peggy Browne is on the mend from knee replacement surgery performed a couple of weeks ago. We can’t wait to have you back at the dog shows soon, Peggy. I’m sure Geoff is taking great care of you!
Congratulations to terrier fancier Alan Hargrave on his upcoming retirement! After 35 years at Ball State University, he will retire on June 30th. I’m sure we will have the opportunity to see more of Alan now that he has more time on his hands. It is my hope this means he will bring more delicious home-cooked meals to the shows!
It was heart-warming to see the excitement, anticipation and pride from Michael Faulkner as he prepared to get back to the shows as a breeder/owner/handler. It is always encouraging to see successful judges return to their roots.
I was relieved to hear that Anna Stromberg and all of her dogs are doing well after a scary hit-and-run accident. Thank goodness no one was injured!
Celebrating anniversaries this week are Wayne and Cheryl Cavanaugh, who are celebrating 40 years of wedded bliss, and Sarah and Matt Perchick who have a few years to go before they hit the 40 mark! May you enjoy many more years of love, health and happiness.
Celebrating birthdays this week are: Ron Scott, Carla Sanchez, Will Alexander, Susie Olivera, Beth Sweigart, Leslie Smith, Ken Murray, Jen Milani, Gwen DeMilta, BJ Whitlow, Roxanne Chumbley, Johann Emedi, Robin Stansell and Melinda Lyon.
Thanks to Gina Weiser for this week’s thought: “Opinion is really the lowest form of human knowledge. It requires no accountability, no understanding. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another’s world.”
Be safe out there, my friends. Cherish the time at shows with your pooches and your friends. Try not to be too busy to lend a hand and win those big, beautiful ribbons. Sorry, I missed you in Henderson, but I look forward to seeing you at the beautiful Riverside, California park in a couple of weeks for the Lake Mathews and Conejo shows! Until next time…
