Remembering Carole Beattie

Carole passed away peacefully in Sarasota, FL on Wednesday December 7, 2022.

Carole and her husband, Bob, presented top winning Wire Fox and Welsh Terriers to the fancy starting in the late 1970s under the SUNSPRYTE prefix. She always had a Wire Fox Terrier by her side and Bob had his Welsh Terrier as they ran their own interior design business in the Tampa Bay area.

The Sunspryte name produced well over 100 Wire Fox Terrier champions and Welsh Terrier champions. Exhibiting both breeds, they won several National Specialties, Multiple Best in Shows and accumulated hundreds of Group Ones, including Terrier Group One at the 1999 Westminster Kennel Club. Carole is the breeder and owner of the only multiple Best In Show Welsh Terrier littermates.  Those littermates went BOB and Group IV, and BOS, at the 1991 Westminster Kennel Club Show.

Carole went on to judge the Terrier, Toy and Sporting groups as well as Best in Show. Her judging assignments took her to spots around the globe including in Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. She was a very knowledgeable “dog person” and a great mentor to anyone who asked for guidance.

Everyone knew who Carole was by her signature Bouffant hair style and her extensive collection of shoes, her mules (high heels). Even when the mud and rain came to the Montgomery County terrier show, Carole was in her mules with rain covers on them!
Carole loved her dogs and watching them shine at the dog shows. She also adored the community of people that made up the shows she so loved to attend.

The Canine Chronicle extends sincere condolences to Carole’s family, friends and the dog show community following her passing. She will be missed.
