Remembering Jo-Ann Kusumoto

We received the sad news that Jo-Ann Kusumoto passed away peacefully in her home on December 28th.  She fought a valiant battle with lung disease and received a lung transplant 4 years ago.

Jo-Ann was known as a very kind, generous person who was loved by every human and animal that had the pleasure of crossing her path.  She loved her dogs dearly, and had many top dogs over the 50 years she was involved in the sport.  Jo-Ann was passionate about Doberman Pinschers, and she owned several top winners including Ch. Marienburg’s Repo Man, Winner of 55 All Breed Best of Shows, the 2002 DPCA National Specialty Winner, and Number One Working Dog in 2002.

Jo-Ann also owned top winning Chinese Cresteds and Maltese.  Not only did she own show dogs, but she always had well-dressed pets by her side.  Jo-Ann worked with many top handlers over the years including Daryl Martin and Moe Miyagawa.

Jo-Ann was a generous supporter of the Canine Health Foundation and served on the board for quite some time.  She also was a generous supporter of Take the Lead and UC Davis Vet School.  Her generosity knew no bounds and helped animals in many ways.  She traveled the world, and never met a stranger.

The Canine Chronicle extends our sympathy to Jo-Ann’s husband, Roy, and her family and friends at this difficult time.  She will be truly missed by the fancy.
