Crufts 2013 – About The Judges
By Kerry L Rushby
Jeff Luscott – Pastoral Group
Jeff’s early years were dedicated to the sporting field with football, cricket, rugby and squash taking priority in his life. He also had a motorbike and many weekends would see him off to his cousin’s, who kept a pub near Usk. His cousin had Great Danes. The Luscott household did not have a dog till after Jeff’s father died in 1968. It was then that a crossbreed called Rusty arrived. He was a great character and loved the long walks over Cleeve Hill near Prestbury in Gloucestershire where they lived.
Jeff started judging in 1980 with Great Danes, and is now passed to award CCs to 57 Breeds in the UK. He also judges the Working, Pastoral, Terrier and Utility Groups, plus Best in Show at Championship Show Level.
He has judged a number of breeds at Crufts in the past and has been invited to judge the Pastoral Group this year, having had the privilege of judging the Working Group in 2012.
He has judged in a number of different countries throughout the world on various occasions, including the prestigious Super 7’s in South Africa, and the Champions-only AKC Nationals in America. He has also had the honor of judging many breeds with CCs, CACs and CACIBs, the Groups and BIS in these countries as well. Jeff has judged breeds in all groups at Open Shows in the UK and has awarded BIS on more than 70 occasions.
Music is also a big part of Jeff’s life, having run Disco and Karaoke gigs, breed club celebrations and special dog event parties over many years including, most recently, the Samoyed World Congress D/D, where all danced and partied the night away.
Jeff says, “I have really enjoyed my time in dogs and try to bring this element to the ring when I am judging. I look forward to seeing the Pastoral Group dogs at this the most prestigious Show of the year.”
