This Time… It’s Personal

Do you ever look around you and think…the world really is going crazy? It seems that every day brings a story that makes you scratch your head in disbelief and ask, ‘how did we get to this point?’. Black is now white, up is now down, wrong is now right and our strong, long-held beliefs, traditions, values of decency and common sense are increasingly being turned on their head and subjected to scorn and ridicule. Increasingly many of us feel that the lunatics have finally taken over the asylum.
And, frustratingly, when you’ve had enough, when you feel that someone has gone just that one step too far and you want to raise your voice in complaint, you find that no-one wants to listen – all platforms are closed off to you. You are told to stop making waves, to just shut up, to go away and disappear.
This dire state of affairs in society hasn’t happened overnight; it has slowly built up over the decades – decades where a large swath of the passive populace were indoctrinated by a media that the ma- jority of us now doesn’t trust, where people have sat silently as their rights were slowly dismantled and taken away, without them lifting so much as a finger.
For many years our hobby has provided a ‘safe space’ – a refuge if you will – from the censorship of thought and word that now plagues ‘general life’ but not anymore. It has been ‘in the cards’ for a while, but now ‘they’ are coming for us.
Britain and America have historically always enjoyed extremely close links and bonds. In fact, there is a commonly used expression which emphasizes those ties; ‘when America sneezes, Britain catches a cold’. In the world of dogs, however, that order is reversed. Craziness often now starts on these shores and then sweeps around the world.
