Remembering MacKenzie McAvoy
By Deb Cooper
There are people that come into your life that you remember, and there are people that you meet that you wish you met a long time ago. These are some of the words used by Kenzie’s friends to describe her. Kenzie fell in love with the sport of purebred dogs at a young age with her first Rottweiler named Zander. She started in Junior Showmanship and was cheered on by her mother, Marybeth, and her sisters, Nicole and Courtney. Kenzie had a gift for working with dogs and she started apprenticing with handlers in south central Florida. She became a loved friend to her peers and mentors. She was able to fulfill one of her dreams and compete with her dog, Zander, at Westminster in June 2021.
Kenzie and her mother were in a horrible automobile accident caused by another driver and, sadly, Kenzie did not make it. She was only 19 years old. Kenzie’s mother, Marybeth, is hospitalized with serious injuries and has a long road to recovery ahead of her. She grieves the loss of her wonderful daughter at the same time.
The Canine Chronicle extends most sincere sympathies to all who grieve this tragic loss. The dog show family in Brooksville, Florida will never be the same. Rest well dear Kenzie. Gone way too soon.
