It seems the older I get, the more friends I lose. I am now in my mid-50s and many of the people I knew, loved and respected so much are gone.
The last year has found us mourning the passing of industry greats like Frank Sabella, Maxine Beam, Wade Burns, and Joe Waterman. We lost respected friends like Mildred Bryant, Carlos Navarro, Iris Love, Julie Desy, Don Sutton, Roger Hartinger, Col. Jerry Weiss, Col. Wally Pede, Martin Doherty, Gary Doerge and Cheryl Robbins. This is the just the beginning of a list that goes on and on.
There is no doubt that this is the normal life cycle that most people don’t take note of until they get older. However, this rationale does not make the passing of our friends any easier to accept.
There is an Indian saying that goes, “When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die the world cries and you rejoice.” Such is the case of those we have loved and lost.
These people, and so many others like them, contributed a substantial portion of their lives to the sport of purebred dogs. Some were icons of the sport. All will be missed more than they know.
