Dog Show Superintendents Association Holds Annual Meeting

The Dog Show Superintendent’s Association (DSSA) annual meeting was held February 8th , 2023 via Zoom. The following members were present: President Bobby Christiansen, and Dorie Crowe (MB-F Dog Shows); Secretary-Treasurer, Becky Sumner, and Sheila Raymond (BaRay Event Services); Tim James and Terry James, (Onofrio Dog Shows), Ed Smizer and Kristie Zimmerman (Rau Dog Shows), and Foy Trent (Foy Trent Dog Shows). Glenn Lycan, Director, AKC Event Operations Support, represented the American Kennel Club.

Glenn presented updates on current statistics for AKC dog and litter registrations and event entries, and the Canine College series and certification process for Stewards, Show Secretaries, and Superintendents. He also informed the Association of current software development for managing judging panels, updated versions of show reports and other issues. He added that AKC is making an effort to compile a list of dog show equipment vendors for clubs.

In the separate DSSA business meeting ongoing issues and ideas for improvement of show management were discussed. The Association approved a donation of $2,000 from the DSSA to AKC Reunite Pet Disaster Relief. The following officers were elected for 2023: President, Bobby Christiansen (MB-F), and Secretary/Treasurer, Becky Sumner (BaRay Event Services). Foy Trent (Foy Trent Dog Shows) was elected to the Executive Committee for a three-year term (seat expiring in 2025).

Formed in 2002, the Dog Show Superintendents Association represents professional AKC licensed superintendents in all important matters impacting superintendents and the Dog Fancy. The DSSA is a group of Professional Superintendents that represents well over 100 years of experience in providing support services to the AKC, show giving clubs and dog show exhibitors.
