AKC Reunite Opens Nominations For 2025 AKC Reunite K-9 Cop Grants

AKC Reunite, the largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider in the United States, is thrilled to announce on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, that nominations are now open for their AKC Reunite K-9 Cop Grant program.

The grant program allows AKC Reunite to match funds from AKC Clubs, three-to-one, up to $7,500 per grant to purchase K-9 police dogs to donate to police departments throughout the United States. In 2024, the program reached 200 grants, totaling almost $1.5 million and will be awarding 133 grants in 2025, totaling $1 million. Applicants must be a qualified police department and work with an American Kennel Club member or licensed club to raise funds for the K-9 to be considered for a grant.

“The Board and staff of AKC Reunite are very pleased to be able to continue the significant support for this important grant program in 2025” said President and CEO Tom Sharp. “With the support of our customers, AKC Clubs and pet lovers across the country, we can invest in the police K-9s that help keep our communities safe.

Founded in 2013, the AKC Reunite K-9 Cop Matching Grant program partners with AKC clubs to assist police departments in acquiring K-9 police dogs. Many law enforcement agencies do not have funds in their budget to obtain police K-9s, as they are considered a specialty unit. The donations allow the police departments to obtain a new K-9 for help with search and rescue, bomb detection, and overall public safety

“The American Kennel Club is proud to support our first responders who sacrifice to protect the American public,” said Christopher Sweetwood, AKC Board Member and Ambassador of the grant program. “Since the program’s inception, over 750 grants have been awarded to departments to assist their canine programs. We are thrilled to honor these brave officers and their K-9 units.”
