We all agree we need more good, experienced dog judges in the ring, right? We complain all the time about the fact that many in our sport lack knowledge of its history, right? Well, it’s hard to find anyone with more experience in the sport of purebred dogs, more knowledge of it history, or a better eye for a dog that Mr. Wayne Cavanaugh.
Here is a brief bio of Wayne for those of you who don’t know him:
Wayne Cavanaugh is a third-generation dogman who has served the sport successfully and with passion at every possible level. He has undoubtedly earned strong support and respect from owners, breeders, handlers, and judges everywhere. We are proud to be among those supporters.
Wayne was first approved to judge for AKC in 1990. For 13 of the past 30 years, he was unfortunately deemed ineligible to judge or apply for new breeds, because of two AKC decisions. First, a new AKC conflict of interest policy was suddenly instituted in 2006 that specifically impacted him as a principal in UKC; then, immediately following, a second denial was made based on a board decision when his conflict of interest ended in 2016.
His most recent request was denied this past January. Accordingly, we the undersigned respectfully ask that the AKC Board take into consideration Wayne’s lifelong dedication to the sport at every level, a sport from which he has never been suspended or reprimanded; his deep and valued knowledge and experience; his undeniable passion for purebred dogs; his 30 years of positive promotion of purebred dogs in the media worldwide; and the steadfast international support of his peers.
We are pleading with AKC to reinstate Wayne Cavanaugh’s judging privileges. The sport clearly needs a judge of his caliber, with his knowledge and experience, back in the ring as soon as possible.
