Remembering Ms. Elizabeth “Lani” McKennon
It is with great sadness we share the news that Ms. Elizabeth “Lani” McKennon of Burbank, California passed away. Lani was an AKC judge and active participant in the sport of purebred dogs for 50+ years.
Lani purchased her first Keeshond in 1972 and her first Papillon a little over 10 years later. She attended many matches, handling classes, and dog shows with her daughters who were involved in Junior Showmanship. Not only an exhibitor, Lani quickly became involved in her local All-Breed and Breed clubs. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Los Encinos Kennel Club.
In 1993, Lani became an AKC Judge. She was approved to judge Best In Show as well as the Toy and Non-Sporting Groups. Lani was a true champion of the sport of purebred dogs. She believed in “giving back” as much as the sport gave to her. Lani was always kind, welcoming, and helpful to new exhibitors. She enjoyed every aspect of dog shows except the travel!
Lani was known for her warm welcoming demeanor, quick wit and sense of humor. The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to Lani’s family, friends and the entire dog fancy. “Soft hugs” to all who knew and loved her. She will be sorely missed.
