Remembering Ms. Carolyn Alexander

We received the very sad news that Carolyn Alexander of Corral De Tierra, California passed away. Carolyn was a Bull Terrier breeder, AKC Judge, and longtime fancier involved in all aspects of the sport of purebred dogs.

Carolyn’s love of dogs began very early on. She owned a Fox Terrier, Pekingese, Afghan Hounds, and German Shepherd Dogs before marrying into Bull Terriers in 1978. With her husband, David, Carolyn bred Bull Terriers for over 40 years under the prefix Brigadoon. One of her favorite Bull Terriers was CH Elizabeth Brown O’Brigadoon ROM, the #1 Colored Bull Terrier Female in 1990. They bred 16 ROM Champions and achieved great success at Silverwood including CH Brigadoon Black Pepper ROM who was BOV three years in a row. Carolyn was most proud of her limited breeding program known for high quality healthy Bull Terriers with fabulous temperaments. Carolyn also bred and showed Akitas.

Carolyn became an AKC Judge of Bull Terriers in 1998. Over the years, Carolyn gained approval to judge four AKC Groups and Best In Show. Carolyn loved to travel; she judged all over the world including the French National in 2006.

For over 25 years, Carolyn served as the AKC Gazette Columnist for Bull Terriers. In 2007, she wrote her first book “Bull Terriers – A Complete Pet Owner’s Manual” at Barron’s request. Carolyn was an active participant in many different dog clubs holding a variety of positions. She served on the Northern California Terrier Association Board for decades and was also active in breed rescue and canine legislation. Carolyn was a Legislative Representative for NCTA, GKC, DMKC, BCBTC, GSBTC and MBBTC.

Carolyn served in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Major. She was an avid reader, horseback rider and loved to travel. Another hobby of Carolyn’s was skiing; she skied most every European mountain! Carolyn was a brave inspirational lady that was always kind. She was a student of all breeds known for her extensive knowledge inside and outside of the ring.

The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to Carolyn’s husband, David, family, friends and all who loved her. She will be sorely missed.
