Remembering Mr. Nelson Huber
We received the very sad news that Mr. Nelson Huber of Picayune, Mississippi passed away on July 16. Nelson was a longtime fancier, handler, AKC judge, and successful breeder of Norwegian Elkhounds for over 35 years.
Nelson began breeding Norwegian Elkhounds in 1967; he bred and handled three All-Breed Best In Show winners. Before becoming an AKC Judge, Nelson was an All-Breed Professional Handler. He could often be spotted in the Alaskan Malamute ring; one of his client dogs was awarded 3 National Specialty wins and 15 All-Breed Best In Shows.
In 1980, Nelson became an AKC Judge. He was approved to judge Best In Show as well as the Working and Hound Groups. He was also a past President of Greater Collin Kennel Club in Dallas. In recent history, Nelson achieved a great level of success with a newly recognized AKC breed – the Cesky Terrier. He showed the #1 Cesky Terrier in the USA for four consecutive years; he was also the #1 Cesky Terrier in Canada.
Nelson served in the United States Air Force. A memorial service will be held in Picayune on August 6. The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to Nelson’s family, friends and the entire dog fancy. He will be missed.
