Remembering Mildred “Millie” Meyer
Mrs. Mildred L. “Millie” Meyer, died Thursday, May 14, 2020. She was 86 years old.
Millie and her late husband, Gail M. Meyer, created Gaymill Collies, home of numerous rough and smooth coated, home bred, group winning collie champions, They produced more than 100 titled dogs. As a judge, she took pride in basing her decisions upon what she believed was right for our breed.
Millie was lifetime member of both Collie Club of America and Collie Club of Georgia. As a former professional handler, Millie shared her talents stewarding, judging, exhibiting and encouraging new collie enthusiasts. She had a special fondness for junior exhibitors, many of whom are professional handlers today.
As a true guardian of the breed, Millie had the ability to recollect pedigrees and each dog’s contribution to the collie gene pool.
Millie was a lady of many interests. She was quite the seamstress and painstakingly created beautiful lace. She enjoyed jewelry making. An avid student of Biblical history, Millie was an invaluable asset to her church where she devoted her time to the study of genealogy. Her home was decorated with not only collie memorabilia but wolf paintings and figurines.
Memorial donations may be sent to Collie Health Foundation or a favorite collie organization.
Due to the current health crisis the family will have a limited person funeral. Interment will be private at Georgia National Cemetery. Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.parrottfuneralhome.com.
