Remembering Mr. Robert Slay
We received the sad news that Mr. Robert Slay of Cary, North Carolina has passed away.
Mr. Slay was one of the most knowledgeable and sought after opinions in the sport of purebred dogs. He was an AKC Judge of all Sporting, Working, Herding breeds, as well as Best in Show. He was a past breeder of German Shepherd Dogs.
He was a past Commander in the US Naval Reserves, a past chairman of a public school system, and served on several advisory boards, such as the Morris Animal Foundation and the Dog Museum of America. He was employed by the American Kennel Club for 18 years as an Executive Field Representative and later as a Vice-President. As a judge, he has judged all over the world at the most prestigious venues, including Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club in 2020. He gave much of his time to the dog community and served as president and show chairman for local dog clubs.
The sport of purebred dogs has lost a kind and devoted friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. The Canine Chronicle extends our heartfelt condolences to his many friends and family during this time.
