Nestlé Purina PetCare Company Supports Canine Health with $227,442 Donation to the AKC Canine Health Foundation

Dr. J. Charles Garvin, CHF Board President, Dr. Diane Brown, CHF CEO, and Ann Viklund, Purina Director of Conformation

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a nonprofit organization committed to better health for all dogs, is pleased to announce that $227,442 has been donated by Nestlé Purina PetCare Company to support canine health through the Purina Parent Club Partnership (PPCP) Program. Since it began in 2002, the PPCP Program has raised more than $7 million.

The PPCP Program enables Purina Pro Club members who participate in the program to designate a breed of dog, earn Purina Points by purchasing qualifying Purina pet foods, and submit proofs of purchase. An annual donation based on the value of the proofs of purchase submitted is split between the parent clubs and CHF for research studies of interest to their club.

“Purina is proud to offer the PPCP Program and to partner with the AKC Canine Health Foundation,” said Ann Viklund, Purina Director of Conformation. “When you look at the wealth of research and the many discoveries this program has helped to support, it is apparent that this work often impacts not only the health of an individual breed but all dogs.”

In 2018, parent clubs will have an incentive to put their PPCP earnings to work for canine health research by participating in a matching-gift initiative offered through the generosity of the American Kennel Club. “The idea is to give parent clubs the opportunity and choice to support an area of health research of specific interest to their breed,” said Dr. Diane Brown, CEO of the AKC Canine Health Foundation. “We are grateful to the American Kennel Club for the matching-gift initiative, and grateful to Purina for their partnership and for offering the PPCP program.”

In addition to PPCP funds, Nestlé Purina also supports the Foundation as a corporate partner and sponsors CHF’s biennial National Parent Club Canine Health Conference. Since 1997, Purina and the Foundation have shared a mission of supporting canine health research to benefit all dogs.
