Cancellation of 2020 Eastern Dog Club Show

After a great deal of deliberation, the Executive Committee of The Eastern Dog Club has decided that their 2020 shows on December 5th & 6th at The Eastern States Exposition Center must be cancelled. We feel that this was a necessary decision to avoid any situation that might increase potential spread of Covid -19 to our exhibitors, judges, vendors and members.

Eastern Dog Club shows have always been a highly regarded special event on the dog show calendar. With the many restrictions now in place, it would be impossible to conduct a show of the caliber of the Eastern Show within these restrictions. There is also significant uncertainty about sudden new restrictions just before the show.

A December show creates special challenges. Of course, none of the show can be outside. The current restrictions in Massachusetts restrict maximum occupancy in a single space to 25 people. With an entry of 2,000 dogs, and 11 rings, the minimum number of people in the building would exceed 50, with no allowance made for any exhibitors. In addition, there is a mandate that anyone entering Massachusetts from States other than New England, New York & New Jersey must quarantine for 14 days. This would apply to our exhibitors, Judges, and staff. We can not represent that any of these individuals would follow the 14-day quarantine mandate. Ignoring the quarantine mandate creates a questionable ethical issue.

The Eastern Dog Club recognizes the hardship that our cancellation may create for many in the Dog Show community. The Executive Committee has decided to make a $10,000 contribution to Take the Lead as a gesture of our commitment to those that depend on Dog Shows.

We look forward to seeing you at next year’s show on December 8th to December 12th, 2021 for the Holiday Classic Cluster
