American Kennel Club Announces Recipients Of 2016 Veterinary Scholarships

New York, N.Y. –The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest purebred dog registry and advocate for all dogs, continues its support of students pursuing veterinary studies with the announcement of the recipient of the 2016 AKC/American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) Veterinary Scholarship and the recipients of the AKC Veterinary Scholarship.

Both of these scholarships are designed to support individuals with a background in AKC events and programs, who seek to promote animal health and medicine. The scholarship amounts total $25,000.

This year, the AKC/AVMF scholarship is awarded to Jacqueline Fera, a student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Fera has competed in Junior Showmanship since the age of 12 and majored in Biochemistry, while continuing her participation in the sport. She looks forward to “becoming even more involved with the sport” and also hopes to become an advocate for the purebred dog.

Recipients of the AKC Veterinary Scholarship are: Caitlin Bowen (University of Florida), Katherine Fernhoff (UC Davis), Amanda Fisk (University of Florida), Alyssa Helms (University of Tennessee), Jodie Joseph (Cornell University), Rebekah Mayhew (University of Wisconsin), Ethan McEnroe (UC Davis) and Samantha Perry (Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine).

“Each of these recipients have had extensive experience in the world of purebred dogs and balanced their busy school schedules with participation in AKC events,” said Mari- Beth O’Neill, VP of Sports Services and AKC’s liaison to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. “We congratulate all of them on their hard work and look forward to seeing their impact on the future and health of purebred dogs in the years to come.”
