The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the health of all dogs, is pleased to announce updated rosters for their Board of Directors and Scientific Review Committee.

Mr. Steven Hamblin was elected treasurer of the Board of Directors. He joined the CHF Board of Directors in 2020 with a wealth of experience in marketing and the dog world. He has bred and shown Pekingese for many years. He is the AKC delegate for the Pekingese Club of America and serves on the AKC Board of Directors.

Mr. John Russell joins the Board of Directors. Mr. Russell breeds and competes with his Labrador Retrievers in AKC field trials. He is an active field trial judge, has held numerous officer positions in the National Amateur Retriever Club, works as Secretary/Treasurer of Retriever News, and serves as an AKC Delegate.

Stephanie A. Montgomery, DVM, PhD, DACVP was appointed Chair of the Scientific Review Committee. She joined the committee in 2020 providing a valuable perspective in comparative medicine. An Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Montgomery’s passion for dogs spurs a professional and personal interest in translating state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapies to veterinary medicine.

Mrs. Cindy Vogels leaves her position as CHF Board Treasurer after many years of outstanding service. Dr. Mary Smith leaves her position as Chair of the Scientific Review Committee but remains an active member of the committee and Vice Chairman of CHF’s Board of Directors.

“Mr. Hamblin and Dr. Montgomery bring enthusiasm and experience to their new leadership positions. Mr. Russell’s rich history in the dog world will provide perspective and energy to the Board,” states Dr. J. Charles Garvin, CHF Board Chairman. “We are very grateful to Mrs. Vogels for her incomparable contributions to the Foundation and look forward to her continued enthusiastic support.”
