Our friends in Puerto Rico are suffering immeasurably right now. The Caribe Kennel Club’s shows close this Wednesday, September 27. Maybe we should all consider giving them an entry even if you can’t attend the show. This would be an easy way to show your support and help the good people of Puerto Rico keep their shows alive during this trying time.

Some people send group 1 or Best In Show photos to the judge AFTER a big win. This, in my opinion, is the maximum “gift” that would be deemed appropriate, and frankly, I have never really been comfortable sending photographs to a judge unless the judge requests it. It is not appropriate to send photos PRIOR to showing to a judge, and sending gifts after a win is also inappropriate and puts the judge in a very awkward position. Hurricane Harvey has left so many in our dog world with such great loss, the type of loss many of us have never and will never experience. Our dog show family once again has stepped up and is providing needed support to those in need. I realize I am not aware of everyone that has stepped up to the plate, but please allow me to publicly thank those that I know have provided much needed support:

If you know of anyone who needs a temporary kennel facility due to this disaster, Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine has generously offered her empty kennel and kennel apartment to anyone who may need it on a temporary basis. It comes complete with living quarters above it. If you can get to Ann Arbor, Michigan, you’ll have temporary shelter. Kudos to you, Peggy, for your generosity! Again social media is playing a huge part in helping those who need urgent assistance by putting those offering a helping hand together with those who are in dire need.

One of the important functions of “good” bacteria is protection against gastrointestinal disease. The symbiotic bacteria of the GI tract use mechanisms of competitive exclusion by not allowing the bad bacteria to take up residence. They produce metabolites to bind toxins or directly kill pathogens, immobilizing them from causing disease.
