ust when we thought the weather-related disasters were over, we have friends that are dealing with fire-related evacuation and damage in Northern California. As an avid wine snob, not only am I keeping tabs on my friends, but also on our favorite wineries! My thoughts are with those affected by these horrible fires. May you and your animals stay safe. Amy Rutherford and Val Nunes-Atkinson have offered their kennel/barn to those friends who may need to evacuate their animals. You can reach them via Facebook Messenger.

Regina Beinhauer, owner of the famous Cocker Spaniel, Striker, was in Las Vegas this past weekend for a very special occasion. Her daughter, Tracy, was married to her fiancé Ed Childers. I hear the wedding was spectacular. Our best wishes to these newlyweds for a lifetime of love and happiness.

Our friends in Puerto Rico are suffering immeasurably right now. The Caribe Kennel Club’s shows close this Wednesday, September 27. Maybe we should all consider giving them an entry even if you can’t attend the show. This would be an easy way to show your support and help the good people of Puerto Rico keep their shows alive during this trying time.

Some people send group 1 or Best In Show photos to the judge AFTER a big win. This, in my opinion, is the maximum “gift” that would be deemed appropriate, and frankly, I have never really been comfortable sending photographs to a judge unless the judge requests it. It is not appropriate to send photos PRIOR to showing to a judge, and sending gifts after a win is also inappropriate and puts the judge in a very awkward position. Promising of judging assignments is also covered on the language above taken directly from the AKC Rules Concerning Misconduct and is a definite “no-no”. As a very dear departed AKC rep always said when asked about things that may have been considered a “gray area” – If you must ask, DON’T DO IT!

Hurricane Harvey has left so many in our dog world with such great loss, the type of loss many of us have never and will never experience. Our dog show family once again has stepped up and is providing needed support to those in need. I realize I am not aware of everyone that has stepped up to the plate, but please allow me to publicly thank those that I know have provided much needed support:

If you know of anyone who needs a temporary kennel facility due to this disaster, Peggy Beisel-McIlwaine has generously offered her empty kennel and kennel apartment to anyone who may need it on a temporary basis. It comes complete with living quarters above it. If you can get to Ann Arbor, Michigan, you’ll have temporary shelter. Kudos to you, Peggy, for your generosity! Again social media is playing a huge part in helping those who need urgent assistance by putting those offering a helping hand together with those who are in dire need.

Faith Ott, owner of the Spanish Water Dog “Jango” that is shown by Nina Fetter, is off to Budapest and Slovakia. She will be bringing back two Spanish Water Dog puppies. It sounds like a fabulous trip with the added excitement of bringing back two new puppies.
Cassie Clark has made her second annual trip across the country from the West Coast to the East Coast where she will ensure that all guests at Jim and Janet Moses’ hunting lodge are well fed. Anyone that has had the pleasure of sampling Cassie’s wonderful catering talents knows what a special treat it is for the diners.
