Entries for the greatest Terrier show in the world–Montgomery County Kennel Club–and Hatboro and Devon have closed. It is shaping up to be another phenomenal week! Montgomery County has an entry of 1220 terriers. Kerry Blue Terriers top the schedule with an entry of 98! Coming in at a very respectable second is Miniature Schnauzers with an entry of 88. If you are fortunate enough to attend what fanciers call “Terrier week,” I hope to see you there. I am looking for fanciers who are attending for the first time, those that are coming from other countries, and judges of these very impressive entries to share their experiences with the fancy! The AKC National Championship entries opened on Onofrio.com. If you have not secured your accommodations for December, you should put that at the top of your to-do list. Rooms at the Hyatt are full. The last time I checked, there were rooms available at the Hilton, but please remember they no longer accept dogs at that property.
There have been some confusing rumors circulating about the 2027 Kentuckiana Cluster. First, the 2027 entries will NOT be limited. The show will be held one week early in 2027, and the dates are March 11-14, 2027. Additionally, the Kentuckiana team has a contract securing for the venue for 2028. We look forward to seeing everyone in Louisville for one of the greatest, largest all-breed show weeks of the year!
The Southern Handlers Charity League once again knocked it out of the park at the shows in Belton, Texas last week. Not only did they hold the Juniors Jamboree, which is a wonderful experience for our up-and-coming fanciers, but they also held a Fancy Pants gala, and a balloon dog competition. Thank you to the sponsors of the Jamboree, and the Southern Handlers Charity League for going above and beyond to raise money that benefits our youngsters! There was fun, education and a great time for all who attended.
The civil case against professional handler Rebecca Cross has been dismissed. The AKC Trial Board dismissed the charge of ‘preventing a club from retaining a show site’ but kept the disruptive behavior charge. She was fined $500 which she paid. Rebecca is now able to show dogs at AKC shows once again. Welcome back, my friend!
I was happy to hear that Dennis O’Connor was able to visit and catch up with Edd Bivin, and Dennis tells us he is doing well. Edd has always been one of my favorite people in the sport of purebred dogs. He is someone I look forward chatting with because I always learn something during the conversation.
Terri Meyers received great news from her oncologist! Terri is now 6 years clear from cancer, and she has been released by her oncologist! Terri attributes prayer, strength, and good attitude to her successful fight! Congratulations, Terri! May you have the best years ahead of you!
Our friend Ann Rairigh has had three chemotherapy treatments after her lung cancer diagnosis. She has decided to hold off on showing dogs until her treatment is finished. Julia Kinsey is on the lead of their string of dogs and may need help at shows. So, if you see her, please offer a helping hand. This past weekend in Indiana, Jody Paquette did just that and took the lead of their Standard special with excellent results. This proves again that the fancy helps their own! We are pulling for you, Ann. Please know that we have your back, and Julia’s, too. Focus on getting well. We will see you on the other side of this horrible disease.
Please keep Jamie Lamphier and her family in your thoughts. Jamie’s father recently passed away. Our sincere condolences to her and the rest of the Lamphier family at this most difficult time.
Fancier Karin Annette Edwards suffered a tragedy when her dog passed away recently. She decided she would go to the Red Canyon Shows in Utah and steward. She was unsure of how she would feel while attending a show so soon after her loss, but she was happy she went. She observed fanciers treating a new, deaf exhibitor with kindness and support; and that exhibitor was made to feel confident and welcome! This shows that if we see someone who is unsure, confused, or struggling, a bit of kindness will go a long way! This exhibitor will be back because of the positive experience they had that day.
Venice, Italy will never be the same as Jason Hoke, Dino Maniaci, and Patty Keenan begin their Italian vacation. Have the BEST time ever, and safe travels home!
David Fitzpatrick has just returned from a family trip to Ireland. The trip sounds like the vacation of a lifetime. Welcome home, David!
