In Memory of Tootie Longo
The sport of purebred dogs is mourning the loss of one of the great ones. Tootie Longo, more affectionately known as “A legend in black” by those in the fancy, passed away Saturday night, May 18th after a valiant battle with cancer. Known for her black Great Danes, Tootie was larger than life–a true Tour de Force.
Tootie Longo was a dedicated breeder of Great Danes, and was always willing to share her knowledge and provide mentorship to the younger generations. Her dogs were a very important part of her life, as were the friends she made along the way. There was no mountain too high for Tootie to climb, and she always competed with grace. She was a true lady in her own right.
Tootie leaves an impressive record behind including: the first black dog to win the Great Dane Club of America National Specialty, the first black bitch to win the Great Dane Club of America, the first black bitch to go Winners Bitch at the Great Dane Club of America National Specialty, the #1 and #2 Top Black Sires in the history of Great Danes, the top winning Great Dane in the history of the breed, and the AKC Breeder of the Year for the Working group in 2013.
Your legacy will live on, my friend. You will be sorely missed by the fancy, and all the friends you made along the way. Rest well, my friend. Until we meet again…
