Remembering Mr. Mark Cocozza
It is with great sadness we share the news that Mr. Mark Cocozza of the United Kingdom passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024. Mark was an international judge and active participant in the sport of purebred dogs for 40+ years.
He successfully bred and owned English Champions across six Hound and Utility breeds including many group winners. Perhaps his biggest winner was “Willy,” CH Araki Fabulous Willy, the winner of two Group Firsts in 2004 & 2007 and Best in Show at Crufts in 2007. Willy went on to become the top winning Tibetan Terrier of all time in the UK after being awarded 40 Challenge Certificates.
At the age of 16, Mark began his judging career. In England, he was approved to judge four Groups as well as Best In Show. Mark judged at too many prestigious events worldwide to mention. He adjudicated the Hound Group at Crufts in 2020 and the Utility Group in 2023. In 2023, he also had the honor of judging his first Westminster Kennel Club assignment including six Hound breeds. Mark has also adjudicated the Sydney Royal, Helsinki Winners, Amsterdam, and Best in Show at Santa Barbara Kennel Club.
Mark was known for his charming charisma and keen eye; ever a gentleman. The Canine Chronicle extends our deepest condolences to Mark’s family, friends and the entire dog fancy worldwide. He will be sorely missed.
