Remembering Cappy Pottle – Covy Tucker Hills German Shepherds
We received the sad news that Cappy Pottle of Cotati, California recently passed away peacefully at her home with her wife, Gloria Birch, by her side. She was known to most as a world class icon of the German Shepherd fancy, breeding under the Covy Tucker Hills prefix.
She moved to Northern California in 1956 and pursued her dream of raising and breeding beautiful German Shepherd Dogs. She was the creator of the Western Shepherd Journal. She also dedicated her time as a board member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America for many years. While on the board, she started a year book about the importance of planned breeding, using the Futurity winners as a guide.
As a breeder, Cappy and Gloria have bred over 300 Champions and 60 ROM Sires and Dams, 14 of which are Best in Show winners. Notably, she was the breeder of the first ever German Shepherd to go Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club, Ch. Covy Tucker Hills Manhattan.
Ms. Pottle was also a judge of German Shepherds and judged them all over the world.
The Canine Chronicle extends heartfelt condolences to Cappy’s many friends and family during this time. We have lost a master breeder and friend to many. She will be sorely missed.
