The American Kennel Club Works With The CPR International Institute To Create New Program Showcased in Working It Out Guide

E-book designed to help resolve disputes in the dog sport

New York, NY-The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest purebred dog registry and leading advocate for dogs, announced the launch of its new Working It OutSM Guide, which showcases a new dispute resolution program developed in conjunction with the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR).

Working It OutSM offers advice that is easy to apply by dog owners, dog clubs and club members when they need to resolve challenging disagreements to which the AKC is not a party and which can be the source of disruptions and lawsuits if they are left to simmer. Working It Out should prove invaluable in having the parties themselves find solutions, or, if necessary, turn to innovative mediation and arbitration methods that the AKC and CPR have designed exclusively for the world of dogs. These mediators and arbitrators have had extensive experience in dog ownership, clubs and events.

The program primarily focuses on (1) internal club disagreements, (2) dog ownership disagreements, and (3) cluster event disagreements.

“The AKC’s new Working It OutSM guide truly is unique, and we are delighted to offer it to the AKC community,” Jay Waks, SEVP and General Counsel of the AKC explained.  “The guide provides tips and tools to resolve several different types of disputes. Working It OutSM will be valuable in having the parties themselves find solutions, or explore additional resolution options. Either way, hopefully they can put the disruptions and costs of lawsuits behind them.”

CPR SVP, Dispute Resolution Services, Helena Tavares Erickson worked with Jay Waks and Heather McManus, VP and Deputy General Counsel of the AKC to develop a thoughtful and practical set of rules that will govern resolution of these disputes. CPR then assisted in setting up the training of the neutrals, and will now administer the program as well.

“We are excited about this innovative new collaboration with the American Kennel Club and are ready to begin administering and helping to solve qualifying private disagreements within the sport of dogs,” said Noah J. Hanft, CPR President & CEO. “CPR has shown time and again that it can work with diverse businesses, ranging from insurers to franchisees, and now the American Kennel Club, to custom design programs that suit their specific and subjective business needs.”

The guide can be found here. More information can be found on www.akc.org
