AKC Canine Health Foundation to Recognize Leaders in Canine Health at Canines & Cocktails Gala
The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), the nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent, treat and cure diseases in all dogs, will hold the 7th annual Canines & Cocktails Gala on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL. The Gala honors the dedication and support of the individuals and corporate partners who help further the CHF mission to advance the health of all dogs and their owners by funding scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to pet-owners, veterinarians and researchers.
As part of the evening’s festivities, Ann Viklund, Director of Conformation for the Professional Engagement Team at Nestle Purina PetCare, will receive the 2017 President’s Award. This award is given annually to a person or organization that has made an exceptional contribution to advancing canine health. Ms. Viklund is a member of the CHF Board of Directors, currently serving as Secretary and as a member of the Board’s Executive Committee.
“Ann’s dedication, intelligence, experience and enthusiasm make the CHF Board of Directors and the Foundation much stronger,” said Dr. J. Charles Garvin, Chairman of the CHF Board of Directors. “On her own and as a representative for Nestle Purina PetCare, she always goes above and beyond for CHF. We are privileged to have her on our Board and she is richly deserving of this honor.”
Also, presented at Canines & Cocktails is the Distinguished Research Partner Award, given to clubs or organizations for their ongoing and outstanding commitment to support canine health research. The 2017 recipients are the Portuguese Water Dog Foundation, the Westie Foundation of America, the Scottish Terrier Club of America and the Scottish Terrier Club of America Health Trust Fund.
“We recognize these organizations and their membership for their longstanding and extraordinary commitment to the health and well-being of not only their own breed, but to advancing scientific research to benefit all dogs,” said Dr. Diane Brown, CHF’s Chief Executive Officer. “Each organization has supported canine health for over 15 years and funded research in epilepsy, oncology, and ophthalmology, just to name a few. We are honored that they share CHF’s mission to improve the health and lives of all dogs.”
Each year, Canines & Cocktails brings together people passionate about dogs to celebrate achievements in canine health research for a night of fun and philanthropy. In addition to the award presentations, guests will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, raffle prizes, live music and dancing.
